WHY WE CREATED THIS COURSE

Why do we offer family skiing experience classes?

For families who are taking their children for the first time to Hokkaido to ski, let's start together in a more relaxed and reassuring way.

A FAMILY'S FIRST SKI EXPERIENCE

A family's first Hokkaido skiing trip

From preparing the equipment to completing the first glide, every step is arranged in accordance with the rhythm of the child and their family.

When taking their children skiing for the first time, parents not only have high expectations but also worry about whether their children will like it, whether their children's physical abilities will be up to the task, and how to arrange for the family's equipment and lessons.

Snoway Academy has designed family skiing experience classes where parents and children can experience skiing together with the same instructor. The classes do not follow a fixed schedule, but are adjusted based on the ages, physical abilities, and learning levels of the entire family.

The original intention behind the promotion

Let the family experience the fun of skiing together first, alleviate the burden of the first-time experience course, and then decide whether the child wishes to continue their learning further.

At least one parent must be involved

Up to 2 children under 12 years old are free of charge

Maximum of 4 people per group

5+1/6+1-hour full-day course

03

After warming up, start with basic safety basics

Before starting formal skiing, the coach will first lead the family to perform a simple warm-up, then move on to learning how to use equipment, moving on level ground, getting up from a fall, and safely stopping, gradually progressing to the slopes according to the individual's ability.

04

BOOKING INFORMATION

Family Skiing Course
Before You Book

Before booking a family ski course, please first understand the course fee, included items, insurance and safety arrangements, pickup location, class hours, and cancellation and change policies.

The course fee only covers the family skiing instruction, does not include the participants’ cable car tickets, snow gear and snow suit rental fees, transportation costs, meals, and other personal expenses.
Lunch, breaks and equipment rental assistance are included within the booked lesson time.

Snoway Academy holds third-party liability insurance with coverage up to ¥200 million. This does not replace personal travel or ski insurance. We recommend insurance that covers skiing or snowboarding. Guests with injuries, pregnancy, heart conditions or other health concerns should seek medical advice before participating.

Family ski experience classes are primarily intended for families to participate and experience skiing together. Instructors will adjust the content based on the age, physical condition, level, and adaptability of each family member; if the students have different levels, the course will prioritize teaching the members with less experience or who adapt more slowly due to safety considerations.

If you wish to focus on improving your skills according to your individual level, we recommend scheduling general private skiing lessons separately.

The same lesson can only include one of the two activities: Ski or Snowboard; it is not possible for the same instructor to teach both types of board at the same time.

The 5+1 hour course includes 5 hours of instruction and 1 hour of lunch time; the 6+1 hour course includes 6 hours of instruction and 1 hour of lunch time. Rest breaks, lunch, and time for the coach to assist with renting or checking in snow equipment are all included within the scheduled course time.

If you need to cancel a confirmed lesson, please contact Snoway Academy as early as possible.

31 days or more before the lesson: 100% refund, less a 2% administration and payment processing fee
15–30 days before: 80% refund
8–14 days before: 50% refund

DATE CHANGES

Please contact us as early as possible. Changes depend on instructor availability, resort operations and remaining lesson spaces. Changes are not guaranteed.

Resort Closure and Force Majeure

If the course cannot be held due to the resort being closed completely, unexpected circumstances for the coach, natural disasters, or other force majeure factors, Snoway Academy will arrange to reschedule, replace the coach, replace the resort (if applicable), or refund according to the actual situation.

Refunds are returned to the original payment method. Processing times depend on the card provider or payment platform.

FAMILY SKI LESSON FAQ

Common questions about Hokkaido family skiing experience classes

The most common questions before arranging for family members to attend ski lessons include the number of participants, the age of the children, free spots, equipment, and the course schedule.

The course is suitable for families who want to experience skiing in Hokkaido together with their children. It is especially suitable for parents and children who are new to skiing and want to start with a safe and relaxed pace. The course requires the participation of at least one parent and child.

Each group can have up to 4 people, including parents and children. The coach will adjust the teaching content based on the age, physical condition, and adaptability of the family members.

Up to two children under 12 can attend the course free of additional fees, but the course must be completed with at least one parent participating. The free places do not include cable car tickets, ski equipment, snow suits, transportation, lunch, or other personal expenses.

Family skiing experience classes are generally suitable for children aged 6 and above who are learning to ski, as well as children aged 8 and above who are learning to snowboard. For children under 6 who wish to learn skiing, we recommend choosing a one-on-one children's private class starting at 4 years old; for children aged 6 to 8 who are learning snowboarding for the first time, we also recommend arranging a one-on-one class.

No. For the same group experience class, you must choose the same board type; that is, the entire group will learn Ski or the entire group will learn Snowboarding. If family members wish to learn different board types, they need to book separately and arrange for different instructors.

Yes. The instructor will adjust the content based on the level and adaptability of the whole family. However, if there is a significant difference in the level of the family members, or if someone wishes to focus on improving their skills separately, we recommend arranging general private skiing classes separately.

The course fee includes private ski lessons and Japanese consumption tax only; it does not include cable car tickets, ski equipment, snow suits, transportation, lunch, and personal insurance. If needed, the instructor can assist with renting and checking the snow equipment; the related assistance time will be counted as part of the course time.

The 5+1 hour course includes 5 hours of instruction and 1 hour of lunch time; the 6+1 hour course includes 6 hours of instruction and 1 hour of lunch time. The coach will flexibly arrange the practice, breaks, and lunch time based on the child's physical condition and family situation.
